Christian Prayers For Kids

Speaking Truth & Light Into Daily Life Through Prayer

Posted on: December 26, 2025

Our Kids Are Given To Us Only For A Time. Show Them Prayer Is A Constant Practice.

Children are a gift from God, and there is no better way to express gratitude for that gift than to teach them to talk to their Creator themselves. This fosters their simple, whole-hearted faith and teaches them to lean on God in all circumstances. Seek God’s Divine wisdom and help through frequent prayer and meditation—not just at mealtime.

Bible Verses on Kids, Families, and Growing Up

Foster the love of prayer and simple adoration in your children when they’re young, and teach them to lean on God through prayer.

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

Psalm 139:13-14 ESV

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

3 John 4, ESV

And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

Deuteronomy, 6:6–7, ESV

Set An Example To Pray For Your Kids and Start A Habit To Pray With Your Kids

Let your kids see you pray and teach them to develop a lifelong love affair with prayer and meditation. Show them the power of prayer and the peace of God in real-time. Open yourself to the blessings God has for you and your family through consistent prayer and connection.

Christian Prayers For Kids: Pray For Them and With Them

Prayer connects us to the Divine. Like any relationship, God wants to hear from us. Prayer and meditation enrich that relationship and sharpen your connection. Spend a moment to cultivate an awareness of the Spirit and lean into His direction.

Powerful Prayers for Kids To Pray

Children are open by nature, and many love to pray. Jesus Himself encouraged children to enter His presence,

...Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.

Luke 18:16–17, ESV

Dear God, you are good. Change my heart to be good. God, you are wise. Help me to be wise like you. God, you are kind. Help me to be kind like you. Forgive me when I don’t do the right thing. Show me the right things to do. Amen.

Dear Jesus, thank you for this day. Thank you for my family and all the good things you give us. Help me to shine your light so bright that other people love you more because of me. Help me make good choices and be kind. Keep me safe. Amen.

Teach them Jesus’ own example for prayer with the Lord’s Prayer. This is a simple prayer that’s easy to memorize and write on their little hearts.

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Matthew 6:9-13, ESV

Bedtime Prayers For Kids

The darkness of night can be scary for children, but encouraging bedtime prayers will help remind them that “Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning”. (Psalm 30:5b ESV) It also sparks a habit of daily reflection and gratitude for the day past.

Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take. Amen.

Thank you for your blessings today, though this day is done. Thank you for your grace and the sacrifice of your Son. Help me sleep in peace tonight and keep me safe until morning’s light. Amen.

Prayer for Kids and Their Future

Children are a gift from above—one that is tied closely with our hearts. Worrying over their future and their well-being can lead to anxiety and frustration, or even conflict. Cast your cares at the feet of Jesus, for His Word says,

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:11-13, ESV

Heavenly Father, I don’t know the future, but you do. I trust you with my child and their path. Lord, help them to be kind and to be a good friend. Show them how to exhibit self-control and love others like you love us. Grant them favor at school or work. Help them cultivate a strong prayer life and live for you with joy. Give them peace and strong, healthy friendships. Keep them safe and healthy. Show me how to love them better as they get older. Amen.

Prayer for Your Kid’s Spiritual Growth

While you cannot control the outcome of your child’s life or spiritual health, you can influence its development. Proverbs 22:6 says,

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.

ESV

This is a comforting truism that should compel you to teach them God’s ways and get on your knees in prayer on their behalf.

Father God, you have blessed me with kids and trusted me with their spiritual growth. God, I’m trusting you to guide me through this eternally important season. Give me your Divine wisdom. Send your Holy Spirit to instruct me and give me strength. Show me how to serve them and help them grow in their love for you. Help me love them like you love me. In the name of Jesus, amen.

Praying for Kids, Pregnancy, and Infertility

Not everyone is a parent yet, nor will everyone become a parent. For some, this triggers heartache, fear, and a sense of loss. May you be comforted by this prayer for kids:

“Dear God, you know the desires of my heart. I want to fill my home with children, teach them your wonderful ways, and love them forever. Please show me how to bring them home. If that is not your plan for me, Lord, please remove this desire and plant a new one in its place. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
