Godly Wisdom Doesn’t Come Naturally, It Must Be Fostered.
Knowledge is the facts we know. Wisdom is knowing what to do with those facts and how they inform our decision-making. Godly wisdom consults Divine insights to better understand God’s will and not lean on our own understanding. Seek Divine wisdom to apply the knowledge you have in everyday life.
Bible Verses on Wisdom
God’s word is revealed to us in the Bible; it’s a physical communication from the Divine filled with wisdom, knowledge, and hope. Use God’s own words to fuel your prayers and remind you of His infinite wisdom.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.
James 1:5-6, ESV
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil…
Proverbs 3:5-7a, ESV
Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! ‘For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?’ ‘Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?
Romans 11:33-35, ESV

Christian Prayers For Wisdom and Guidance
Before entering into thoughtful prayer, take a deep breath and leave behind any pride or selfish ambition. Asking for Divine wisdom is asking to be filled with the Spirit and trusted with greater responsibility. Take a moment to cultivate an awareness of Spirit and attune your soul to hear from God.
Prayer for Wisdom and Clarity
God plays an active role in our spiritual lives. He wants us to take bold action and be fueled by His wisdom to walk in His ways. In Isaiah, we see evidence of that here, “…you shall weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry. As soon as he hears it, he answers you… And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it…” (Isaiah 30:19b & 21, ESV)
Dear God, I’m feeling a lot of confusion right now. Please grant me the wisdom and clarity to make wise decisions. Help me see beyond my own limitations. Eliminate the fog of indecision and fear, and give me the confidence to follow through. Amen.
Heavenly Father, renew my mind to be in tune with your Spirit. Guide my steps toward your will and grant me peace as I move closer to it. Your ways are perfect, God. Help me see them more clearly. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Praying for Godly Wisdom
Godly wisdom isn’t like worldly wisdom. It’s a wisdom that opens the eyes of our hearts to the Divine, increasing our awareness of Him, drawing us closer. Pray through this passage from Ephesians 1:
...that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe…
(Ephesians 1:17-19a, ESV
God, you are the only source of true wisdom. I humbly ask you to reveal your wisdom to me. Fill me with your guidance and enlighten the eyes of my heart. Help me bring you glory with every move I make. Amen.
Prayer for Wisdom and Discernment
Wisdom and spiritual discernment is the ability to distinguish truth from lies, to stand firm in what is right and reject what is wrong. This only comes with an increasing awareness of the Spirit and the beginning of wisdom.
And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ…
Philippians 1:9-10, ESV
Father God, please grant me wisdom and discernment to distinguish truth from lies. Reveal the truth with your Divine light. Protect me from the forces of darkness. Make me more aware of the Holy Spirit and reveal to my heart the answers I need. In the name of Jesus, amen.
